The use
of bursting discs started in the oilfields back in 1930.
Bursting discs are used in practically all types of
installations where safety to personnel and equipment is of
primary importance.
The first versions
consisted of a simple metal foil that was installed directly
between two smooth flanges. Originally, they were used as a
primary protection against overpressure, as an alternative to
safety valves. In comparison with safety valves, bursting
discs represent a light-weight, cost-effective and maintenance
free solution that is able to release a large relief area
within shortest time.
